Originally de Gregorio of Sicily, Italy; the DiGregorio family had titles in Sicily,
Umbria, Pisa, Arezzo, Cerni, Aquila and Benevento. The family split into two
main branches in the 13th century, one in Sicily and the other in Umbria
where one branch held the titles of barons of the Regio Demanio, marquises
of Vallesntoro, Squillace and the Holy Roman Empire, and princes of
Santelia; and the other branch held forty feudal lordships, six marquisates,
were dukes of Tremistero, and were also princes of Santelia. In the church,
Cardinal Giovanni Gregorio was Archbishop of Messina in 1830.
